“If you know the enemy and know yourself you need not fear the results of a hundred battles.”
— Sun Tzu
Before every Major League Baseball game begins the manager will sit down with his pitching coach in the quiet of his office and go over the plan for the game.
They decide who to go to if the starting pitcher gets knocked out in the first inning. They’ll talk about which reliever is going to close out the game if they have a lead. They’ll figure out what they’re going to do if the game goes extra innings.
That way in the heat of the game when emotions are running high, they already know how they will handle situations. If they tried to make every decision in the heat of the moment, it could lead to emotional decisions that are not well thought out.
How about you? Do you have a plan for today? Have you looked at your schedule and identified what key things may come up?
Maybe you’re on a diet and you know that if you show up to the after hours party without having eaten first you’ll be tempted to overeat.
Maybe you have a challenging co-worker. You can go through the scenario in your head and decide how you’re going to respond long before it happens. That way you don’t react emotionally.
What challenges might you face today? How are you going to handle them? Come up with a game plan. You’ll be glad you did.
Win Your Day!
